Cheese and coffee layered cake recipe

Coffee is widely accepted due to its very nice aroma.  It is not only consumed as a drink, but it can also be used as one of the cooking ingredients such as for making cookies and cakes.  This article presents a cheese and coffee cake recipe that must be tried.  It is basically divided into two parts; the cheese layer (A) and the coffee layer (B).

Ingredients for A:

10 egg yolks

75 grams fine sugar

50 grams milk powder

75 grams melted butter

50 grams grated cheddar cheese

In order to prepare the cheese layer, whisk the eggs and sugar until fluffy.  Add wheat flour and milk powder gradually into the mixture, followed by melted butter.  Mix slowly with cheddar cheese.  Pour the mixture into a baking pan and bake at 180oC until cooked.  Put aside to cool.

Ingredients for B:

250 grams butter

15 egg yolks

125 grams fine sugar

Quarter teaspoon of baking powder

25 grams corn flour

25 grams milk powder

1 teaspoon of sweetened condensed milk

Coffee paste

1 teaspoon of ovalette (optional)

Some strawberry jam

Beat butter in a bowl until smooth.  Add in sweetened condensed milk and coffee paste and mix thoroughly then put aside.

Beat eggs, sugar and ovalette until fluffy.  Add in sieved corn flour, milk powder and baking powder and stir gently.  Then, mix it with the butter mixture.  Pour 125 grams of this mixture into a baking tray.  Bake at 150oC using the upper heat for about 6 minutes, layer by layer until done.  After finished, bake for another 10 minutes with heat from the lower stove.

Now we have two separate layers.  In order to combine both layers, cut horizontally each layers after they are cool so that we have 4 layers altogether.  Spread some jam in between the layers and arrange them interlaced.  Serve after about two hours to ensure that these layers stick.

There you have a delicious coffee cake recipe for tea and special occasions.

Memorial Day Cooking Recipes – Fight the Calories Away!

Memorial Day is one of very important holidays for the people America, especially during the war times. They celebrate this day in order to honor the ones who have served the country and also those who are serving today. Courageous women and men have devoted their lives in order to the serve this nation, a few of them have even lost their lost their lives for the cause. Because of this reason it’s very important for us to dedicate one day of every year in order to honor and remember their sacrifices. So this one day we celebrate it as true Americans by uniting with family and friends and enjoying picnics, bonfires and barbecues, in order to remember those who are serving now and those who have already served , and others that we’ll never know of.

The bad part of the celebrations for Memorial Day is the menu that stays with us as calories long after the celebrations are over. You can get help to enjoy this special day without consuming a large amount of calories which we usually don’t on a normal day but at the same time you can also eat without being deprived. Keep reading in order to find some fantabulous ways for cutting down calories from the Memorial Day feasts.

Instead of frying the chicken grill it. For a long time Fried chicken has been the favorite for almost very occasion, especially in the south. And so this adds on extra unwanted calories which might be spent on desserts instead. In addition you can even skip the sauce, meaning barbecue sauce. and There are many great rubs which may be used with your pork, beef, or even chicken which gives it a powerful effect when it comes to flavor excluding those calories which sugared barbecue sauces adds up to your dishes.

Remember to take salads as the side course. Besides salad ,eat freshly cut vegetables as a side course and low fattening dressing can add taste to the side as well the appetizers.. By making these for your invitees you might be amazed to discover that other people appreciate the healthy options much like you do. Cooked vegetables which aren’t dripped in butter, cheese sauces, or any other type of fats provides a best option than high fat, high crab side dishes as cheese and macaroni, mashed potatoes and potato salad.

Fruits can help you reduce your crave for sweets, so always have fruits available. Although I might not dream of entirely banning you from dessert I’ll also recommend two steps the fight against fats. One, have at the least one sugarless dessert option for the ones who are dieting and also offer fruits. Two, making a delightful treat with lots of fruit and a sugarless dessert in a lower portion .This will double your health benefits.

At last, homemade ice creams has been a for a long time, a tradition on Memorial Day, Labor Day, and Independence Day. Just because you are making an effort to watch your waist line ,do not say “no” to all good things. And By wiping out the empty calories, most of us take in as drinks, and also following the above steps you just may think that ice cream will be a choice to completely blow the effective work which you’ve done. But one should not forget that moderation is the key.

Once in a while you can let yourself indulge in good foods, by this the chances of you failing in your attempt to stay fit is less. Besides taking note of the amount of calories you take on occasions like these also make sure to note down the calories that are burnt. Go for a short walk, take a little hike, pick any game or play football with your family, else dance with the younger ones in afternoon. Constant efforts to burn calories, whether a holiday or not, even when you consume less will help a long way in shaping you up

Vegetarian Cuisine

Rabbit food. That’s what my dad calls vegetarian cooking and cuisine. Salads and vegetables – can’t be anything more to it, can there? Oh, but there is. Vegetarian cooking is at least as varied as ‘regular’ cooking – and in some cases, far more imaginative.

Nearly thirty years ago, Diet for a Small Planet, and the follow-up cookbook, Recipes for a Small Planet hit the bookstore shelves with a resounding thud that still echoes. While many of the theories of protein complementarily that Frances Moore Lappe presented have been proven to be na?ve by further research, the basic theories of eating and the wonderful meatless – and truly vegetarian – recipes endure. The Moosewood Cookbook and The Enchanted Broccoli Forest followed, and then an avalanche of cookbooks devoted to the vegetarian gourmet.

Vegetarian cooking is more than just ‘meatless’. There’s an art to mixing flavors and textures in just the right combinations to create masterpieces that are as appealing to carnivores as to those who’ve eschewed meat. For Hindi chefs who practice Ayurvedic cooking, food is more than nutrition – it is a meditation, a gateway to the higher consciousness. There are three major components and six tastes (sweet, salty, sour, bitter, pungent and astringent) to be considered in the preparation of every dish, and a meal prepared according to the Ayurveda is a feast for the eyes, the nose, the mouth and the mind.

The very best vegetarian meals are not ‘meatless’ versions of dish that usually has meat in it. ‘Meatless’ lasagna suggests that something is missing from the recipe. Anyone who has dined on spinach lasagna knows that there’s nothing missing – the blend of creamy cheese and spinach and spices is perfect in and of itself. Polenta with spicy black bean sauce has no need of meat to make it more complete – made right it melts on the tongue AND sticks to the ribs at the same time.

Even within the overall umbrella of ‘vegetarian cuisine’ there are variations. Outside Western culture, most meals have little or not meat at all – so it is not surprising to find vegetarian main dishes in Indian and Chinese cuisine, nor in Russian cooking and African regional cuisines. Many base main dish meals on legumes and nuts. Peanut and cashew soups, humus with spices and lemon, fermented black bean sauces ladled over bread and pasta and rice and couscous – Middle Eastern and African cooking offers all of those and more.

If one approaches vegetarian cuisine as a ‘substitute’ for cooking with meat, one is sure to be disappointed. It is a way of eating and cooking, of spices and combinations that can be as light and fluffy as a meringue or as dense and chewy as the best seven grain bread. If you’ve never tried a real vegetarian meal – as opposed to a ‘meatless’ or ‘meat substitute’ – the very best place to start is at your nearest Indian or Middle Eastern restaurant. You’ll be amazed at the flavors and textures – and you won’t even notice that there’s no meat.

Latest free sponge cake recipe

sponge cakes are my favourite  cakes although i have made so many types of cakes. This is because of the reason that they are very simple  to make and are very tasty to eat. There are just some basic things you would need for making a sponge. So it is your responsibility to make sure they are all present at your home beside you.The list of things would be flour, sugar and eggs.

Many people ask me if they really need to add the baking powder or not.I highly recommend people that it is not at all needed to add it as it is fine if you leave the cake to become spongy naturally rather than relying on the baking powder.Beat the eggs and sugar together. You will be needed to stop beating them once you have got a creamy mixture. The sponginess of the cakes would be very nice if you mix the ingredients very well. Now add the flour to the creamy mixture and mix them well. After proper mixing bake them and you would have your sponge cakes.Rather than having the cakes to be baked into regular boring shapes you can try out different shapes that comes to your mind or the ones that you saw at some shops. You can also refer several free sponge cake recipe for additional tips.Add chocolate powder to make a chocolate sponge cake and also add almonds and cashews if you dont want to keep it plain. The important tip you need to know is that all the utensils and bowls you would be using to make a sponge cake should be void nay fatty substances.

20-year-old Recipe for French Chocolate Silk Squares

I believe this recipe came from a 1989 edition of Woman’s Day magazine but I can’t be sure.  It was listed in the “Eating Healthy” section  because it has 1 1/2 tablespoons of oat bran in every square.  Each square also has 188 calories, 4 grams protein, 26 grams carbs, 9 grams fat, 0 mg cholesterol, and 130 mg sodium.  That is pretty good numbers for a dessert!  This is great for family meals, co-workers, holiday gift giving, bake sales, church potluck, etc.  Who doesn’t love the idea of chocolate and healthy all in one?  Give these French Chocolate Silk Squares a try today and see just how well healthy and chocolate can be together!

FRENCH CHOCOLATE SILK SQUARES

This recipe is a clipping from a 1989 Woman’s Day magazine according to the notes I found with it.

Crust:
1/2 cup margarine, at room temperature
1/4 cup confectioners’ sugar
1 1/2 cups uncooked oat bran
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 tsp salt

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Line an 8 or 9-inch square baking pan with foil. Spray foil with no-stick cooking spray. TO MAKE CRUST: Mix margarine and sugar in a medium-size mixing bowl until blended and smooth. Add oat bran, flour and salt; stir just until blended. (Mixture will be moist and slightly crumbly.) Turn into prepared pan and press firmly and evenly over bottom. Bake 20 to 25 minutes just until edges start to brown.

Topping:

Whites from 3 large eggs
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup packed brown sugar
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/8 tsp salt

While crust bakes, put all topping ingredients into a medium-size bowl and whisk until smooth. Pour over the partially baked crust. Bake 20 tl 25 minutes longer until top looks dry and slightly puffed. Cool completely in the pan on rack. Lift foil by ends onto a cutting board. Peel off foil. Cut into 16 squares, dipping knife into hot water before making each cut.

Note: These keep well up to 1 week in tightly covered container in cool place with waxed paper between layers. Dust with confectioners’ sugar just before serving.

Enjoy!

Atkins Diet Recipes: Low Carb Fruit Pizza

In honor of my in-laws coming to town, I decided to make this low carb treat for them. It is obviously not Induction friendly due to the nuts, wheat gluten, and fruit; but like the last cookies, it is example of what is possible on a low carb diet. It is delicious, and to the cynics, who said “low carbers would wolf down entire birthday cake if they could with no reprecussions,” this is my answer. I made this for my birthday, and everyone loved it. Thanks for watching… Low Carb Fruit Pizza – courtesy of Jennifer Eloff (www.sweety.com) http Crust: 1 2/3 cups ground almonds 1/3 cup SPLENDA® Granular 2 Vital Wheat Gluten 1 tbsp unsalted butter 1 egg white 1/4 tsp almond extract Filling: 8 oz cream cheese, softened 1/2 cup sour cream 1/4 cup SPLENDA® Granular 1 tsp vanilla extract Topping: 1 cup fresh strawberries 1/4 cup Peaches, No Sugar Added 1/2 cup fresh blueberries Pineapple Glaze: 1/2 cup SPLENDA® Granular (125 mL) 1/2 tsp Xanthan Gum 1/2 cup unsweetened pineapple juice 2 tbsp lemon juice (25 mL) Crust: In medium bowl, combine almonds, SPLENDA® and vital wheat gluten. Stir in butter. Beat egg white with fork until frothy; stir in almond extract. Stir egg white mixture into crust mixture. Place dough ball on pizza pan. Use small cylindrical object (such as baking powder container) to roll dough to roughly 12″ shape. Bake in 325°F (160°C) oven 15 to 18 minutes or until golden. Filling: In food processor with sharp blade or in blender, process cream cheese until smooth
